MEMBERS NIGHT

The first members only night was held on 30th July with the evenings entertainment coming with music from The Backtrack Band and comedy from Joe Goodman who has previously appeared on The Comedians TV Show, Joe actually found out the club has a "resident ghost"! The evening was a success that will hopefully be repeated although a few seats were left unoccupied on the night. Pictures can be found by clicking this link to the Photo Page.

SOUTHCHURCH CUP

The Southchurch Cup is the annual golf tournament held between The Ambleside Social Club and The Supporters Club that has now been running for 5 years raising money for charity. This year The Ambleside retained the trophy by a score of 602 - 592. However, David Ellison won the nearest the pin trophy and unfortunately for him Terry Crease won the coveted wooden spoon. Further details will be published when I receive them and a video of the Presentation Evening at The Ambleside can be found here. The pictures of the days events including the Presentation Evening can be found by clicking here. For those of you that would prefer an alternative version featuring our own players then please click here.

RACEDAY

The Annual Raceday was once again a sell out as soon as it was announced with a full coach load of club members desending on Newmarket Race Course for a fun filled day ending off with a night of Karaoke on their return to the club. Although the weather was not at its best it did not detract from the day as can be seen by clicking here to view the photographs taken on the day by Allison Clark.

JULY QUIZ NIGHT

The July Quiz Night raised £172.59 for charity. The running total for the year now stands at £1341.56.

MEMBERS NIGHT

Tickets for the Member's Night will be available from Sunday 10th July on a first come basis. All tickets need to be picked up in person with no reservations allowed. Please note this is a special night for club members only and no guests will be permitted.

DARTS COMPETITION

The 3rd of July saw the 2nd Charity Darts Competition that had to be put off from it's orginal date in June to it clashing with Father's Day. We saw some new players entering this month but unfortunately it had to run as a singles competition this time as we had a distinct lack of female players and a few people who played last time could not make it this time. The competition was won by Clive Masters who beat Ken Morgan in what was a very tense final that could have gone either way with Clive eventually coming out with a 3-2 victory, Clive then donated his winnings to charity to boost the amounts in the charity pots on the bar so a big thank you goes out to Clive.

RAY COLLINS

On the 2nd July Singer/Guitarist Ray Collins made his first appearance at the club. Unfortunately not many people attended due to the fact that his publicity material had been misplaced so it had not been advertised in the club. However those that did attend the club on the night had a treat with Ray giving us a night to remember with his own take on two songs by Eric Clapton and The Mavericks and a range of songs from Elvis through to Pink Floyd. Ray played a wide choice of music from the 50's to the 80's and deserved a far bigger audience. He will be returning to the club on 5th November so please put the date in your diary. To see some of Ray's performance please click here.

NEWMARKET RACEDAY

Sadly all places for this event have now been taken. However, there will be entertainment at the Club that evening to welcome the lucky ones home.

DATE CHANGES

Due to a surge of interest and also that it clashed with Fathers Day the Mixed Pairs Darts Competition has now been move to the 26th of June and also the Disco/Karaoke that was dur to be held on the 25th June has now been moved to the 16th July to coincide with the Clubs annual outing to Newmarket Races. This will provide the evening entertainment for those of you lucky enough to be attending this event. Finally the December Quiz night has had to be moved to the 17th December.

MAY & JUNE QUIZ NIGHTS

Both the May and June Quiz Nights have been well supported with the May night raising £160.26 and the June night raising £210 for local charities. This gives a total for the year so far to £1169.06 The next Quiz Night will be held on 9th July and will be run by Paul and Allison who will look forward to seeing you there.

EASTER SUNDAY CHARITY DARTS COMPETITION

On Easter Sunday the club held a Charity Knockout Mixed Pairs Darts Competition. This was the first time the event had been run and it turned into an afternoon not to be forgotten by those that attended. The pairs were drawn from a hat on the day so that everyone had a fair chance of winning and the games consisted of three legs of 501 and the final the best of five legs. The entrance fee of £3 per player was split between the eventual winners, Simon & Collette, and the three charirty pots on the bar. Due to the popularity of the event it is now to be staged every 2 months in future with the next one being on June the 19th when hopefully more members will take part. No matter what level you play at please turn up and support the charities as you never know you might end up winners!

APRIL QUIZ NIGHT

The April Quiz Night raised £231 for the clubs nominated charities. The event was well attended and the usual buffet was provided. It was nice to see some new face's joining the Quiz this time and hopefully they will return for the future Quiz Nights. The next one will be held on the 14th May and will be hosted by Paul & Alison. Thank you to all that attended and thank you for your donations.

QUIZ NIGHT PRESENTATION EVENING

On the 12th March we held our Quiz Night Presentation Evening to distribute the money raised throughout the year to the Club's nominated charities. This year the total amount raised was £1800 and it was decided to divide the money equally between 3 local charities. This year it was decided that the benefactors would be Havens, Essex Air Ambulance and The Dove Project. Representatives of all 3 organizations were on hand to offer their thanks and to explain exactly what the money would be used for. There was also an additional amount of £443 raised by Ingrid Ayriss taking part in the auditions for Britain's Got Talent that was presented to The Dove Project, her nominated charity. The club has also made a donation of £100 to both Havens and the British Heart Foundation in memory of Alan Stokes who served the club for many years.

We would like to offer our thanks to all club member's that support this event and therefore help to support the work of our local charities and would remind you that this event takes place at the beginning of each month should you wish to come along and pit your brain's against other club members. A full buffet is laid on with a raffle taking place at the end of the evening and admission to the Quiz is just £2.00 per player with a maximum of 6 players per team.
